Band

Band Introduction and Overview
Thoreau band students perform at an event

Because of the nature of the organization, discipline must, of necessity, be strict.  Please remind your child that in order to get the most from band, the student must make the most out of it in every rehearsal and performance.  Make each rehearsal like a concert.

Students should practice 1/2 hour per day.  It is easy if you break practice into two 15 minute time slots.  Put the practice time on the card inside the cover of their band books and initial.

All students are required and expected to participate in school concerts. Our uniform for concerts will be white shirt, black dress pants or skirt, black socks and black dress shoes (no tennis shoes).  No student will be denied participation in any concert due to financial considerations as long as two weeks written notice is given directly to Mrs. Moore so that other arrangements for the uniform may be made.

Thoreau will supply some instruments according to individual needs.   There is no deposit or rental fee for school owned instruments, however: Parents will agree to pay for any loss or damage as determined by the Director as well as the cost of keeping it clean.  The Director will check the instruments out.
