About Us
Welcome to Thoreau!
Students at Thoreau Demonstration Academy engage in real-world hands-on learning through our MicroSociety program where they build understanding of the demands and responsibilities of real life in the workplace and explore potential career interests.
We offer language classes in French and Spanish, computer science, and a range of extended day activities, including drama, yearbook, and athletic options.
Our TRIBES program creates a positive, safe, and supportive school climate where students learn important life and social skills.
In a world that demands preparation to add value with increasing complexity, our MicroSociety students have years of experience solving real world problems, thinking critically, collaborating in diverse teams and connecting subject matter and experiences in ways that foster creativity. From the time they enter the building each day, they are citizens aiming to achieve sustainable change in the world.
AT THOREAU DEMONSTRATION ACADEMY, STUDENTS CAN:
- Explore real-life career possibilities and develop real-world skills in our MicroSociety;
- Develop self-awareness and collaborative problem solving skills in small-group learning settings; and
- Learn in a thriving, diverse student community surrounded by caring adults who nurture their academic, social, emotional, and personal needs.
What is MicroSociety?
